Privacy
What this catalogue records about you, why it records it, how long it is kept, and who can see it.
Searching without an account
You can search the catalogue, open any title and see where its copies are without signing in and without an account. When you do that we do not record who you are, because we do not know and have not asked.
We do not use cookies for advertising or analytics, and there are no third-party trackers on this site. That is why you were not shown a cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to.
Book cover images are fetched from Open Library, an external service. Your browser requests them directly, so Open Library sees that a cover was requested. It is not told who you are, and we send it nothing but the ISBN already printed in the book.
If you have an account
Accounts are created by library staff at the desk, after you present an identity card. There is no public sign-up, so nothing here was collected without a librarian and you in the same room.
What is held
- Your name, matric or staff number, and email address.
- Your faculty, department and level, taken from your card at registration.
- Your category, which sets how many books you may borrow and for how long.
- Your borrowing: which copy, when it was issued, when it is due, when it came back.
- Titles you have reserved, and titles you have saved.
What is not held
- Your password. Only a hash of it, which cannot be turned back into the password.
- What you searched for. Searches are answered and not recorded against you.
- Anything about you from any other system, and nothing bought from anyone.
Who can see your borrowing
Library staff can see what you currently have out, because that is how a book gets issued and received at the desk, and how an overdue notice is sent.
Nobody can see the titles you have saved. Saved titles are readable only by you. There is no staff view of them and no administrator screen that lists them, because a reading list says what somebody is thinking about, which is nobody else's business. That is not a promise about how we behave; it is a fact about what the software can do, because no way to ask for another person's list was ever built.
Messages we send
We email you about your own borrowing only: a book due soon, a book overdue, a reserved copy ready for collection, and password resets. If you allow notifications in your browser we may send the same things as a notification instead.
We will never send you marketing, and your address is not given to anyone. Mail is delivered through Resend and notifications through Google Firebase; both carry the message and nothing more.
How long it is kept
A loan record is kept while you are a member of the library, because your borrowing history is part of your library account and you may want to look at it. Sessions expire on their own, and every session is voided the moment you change your password.
When an account is closed its records are deleted. Deletion is real: the rows are removed, not marked hidden.
Where it is stored
The database is hosted by Neon and the application by Render, both in the United States, and the domain is served through Cloudflare. Connections use TLS, so what travels between your device and the library cannot be read on the way.
Asking us about your data
Ask at the library desk. Staff can show you everything held about you, correct anything wrong, and close your account. Bring your identity card, for the same reason you needed it to register: so that nobody else can ask on your behalf.
About this system
This catalogue was built by Group 4 as coursework for SEN 106 and SEN 216 at Obafemi Awolowo University. It is a student project. If something here does not match what the library tells you, the library is right.
